Asian Elephant

The Asian Elephant , also known as the Asiatic Elephant , distributed throughout the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia , from India in the west , Nepal in the north , Sumatra in the south , and to Borneo in the east . The elephant is the Earth's largest land animal , although the Asian elephant is slightly smaller than it's cousin .Asian elephant's can be identified by their smaller , rounded ears . It is the only living species of the genus Elephas . It is the largest living land animal in Asia . As the population decreased at least by 50 percent , the Asian elephant was listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List , since 1986 . It is primarily threatened by the loss of habitat , habitat degradation , fragmentation and poaching .
